Paul Britton
Background, public record, forum positions and unanswered questions for Paul Britton, a 2026 Armstrong councillor candidate.
Office: Councillor
Paul Britton served more than 20 years on Armstrong council before losing his seat in 2022.
At the forum, he was unusually candid about that loss.
He said losing by 15 votes still bothers him and is part of why he is back.
Britton also added substance to his housing position.
He described his previous involvement in a regional affordable-housing group and argued Armstrong needs outside partners and more diverse housing forms rather than expecting existing municipal taxpayers to finance affordable housing alone.
On communication, he was sharply critical of how the downtown project was handled.
Britton argued the City, Chamber and affected businesses should have been meeting regularly during construction and specifically called for an open mic at council meetings so residents have a clearer opportunity to speak.
That proposal is particularly relevant given the questions this article raises later about how public enquiries are handled and preserved.
Previous public office: More than 20 years on Armstrong council.
Record summary: Long municipal involvement in planning, community services, finances and infrastructure.
From the forum: Advocated regular City-business communication during major projects and more direct opportunities for residents to speak at council.
Another way to look at it: Britton has experience identifying what he believes the current council should do differently. His own long record is also open to the same scrutiny.
What I’d like to know: What did Britton learn from losing in 2022 that would change how he governs if returned?
